Bryanston Primary learners excel at cross-country

The Bryanston Primary School cross-country team celebrate a successful Inter-School finale.

Bryanston Primary School athletes come out top in the Inter-Schools Cross-Country Challenge.

More than 400 young athletes from 10 schools participated in four races. Taking honours for Bryanston Primary School were Tori Coulson in the girls’ U9 category, Matthew Hunt (boys U11) and Shannay Marais (girls U12), who all finished first in their respective age groups.

“Our athletes competed valiantly and I was very proud of all their efforts,” said Bill Corner, the sports coach at Bryanston Primary School. Trophies were awarded to the top athlete in each age group and ribbons to the top five in each category.

“The cross-country team put in a huge amount of effort this season and I am very proud of them for all for their commitment to the early morning and weekend training.”

The sport caters for all ages and abilities and is seen by many top athletes and coaches as an excellent platform on which to build a high level of stamina and is a perfect conditioning tool for middle and long-distance athletes.

Parents and coaches were impressed with the quality of the running from the top contenders but equally the determination of those further back in the field to finish as strongly as they did.

Schools who participated included Reddam House Bedfordview, King David Linksfield, Linksfield Primary and Sandton Sinai.

Details: Bryanston Primary School 011 706 1263.
