Rivonia Primary learner awarded for donating pocket money and volunteering at SPCA

Ewan McKelvey in Grade 4 at Rivonia Primary School, poses with his award.

A Grade 4 boy from Rivonia Primary School was recently announced as the May winner and awarded Super Truper Award from Toys R Us.

Candice Martin, Grade 5 head at the school, said Ewan McKelvey is an outstanding, kind and well-mannered, nine-year-old boy from Rivonia Primary School.

“Ewan selflessly gives up his own pocket money along with any willing contributions for the Germiston SPCA.”

According to Martin, he not only buys food but volunteers on a continuous basis at the SPCA over weekends and it is such a treat for the animals, as they not only get extra love and attention but time to play and walk freely.

The Super Truper award is for any child that goes out of their way to be a Super Truper by being passionate in a cause of their own (Assisting others, animals or the environment).

Ewan said receiving the Toys R Us voucher made him very happy. “I never thought I would get anything for doing what I do. I am so grateful and I already bought something awesome.”

Martin said at Rivonia Primary they have Rivonians on a Mission (Roam) and their environmental committee.

“In these two committees we try to create awareness about relevant issues and we aim to assist our community, people in need, animals and our earth.”

She said they believe that by creating responsible, enlightened and compassionate children they are creating a better tomorrow for future generations.

They are very excited about this award and it is such a great way to give back to children and acknowledge them for something other than sport.

“I only wish we could give each and every child that does something big or small an award,” ended Martin.
