Update on Linbro Park water mains

Welders work inside the 1.5m pipe which burst in Linbro Park.

Following the massive burst pipe in Linbro Park that left Sandton residents without water for four days in December last year, progress has been made.

It was reported in, Taps run dry for days, Week ending 1 December 2017, that a landfill was built on top of the water mains and caused erosion to the pipes.

MMC for Environment and Infrastructure Services, Nico de Jager provided an update as to what was currently happening at the site.

“I am happy to report that all the leaks on the line under the landfill site have been fixed,” he said. “The last two leaks were fixed on 22 January without any disruption to the community.”

De Jager added that Joburg Water and Pikitup were working together to remove the landfill from atop of the pipeline. “Currently Joburg Water are very aware of the compromised state of the infrastructure in the area and are continuously monitoring the pipeline in the area.”
