UPDATE: Police launch manhunt for the suspects in Audi R8 shooting

A 37-year-old driver of an Audi R8 was shot several times and managed to drive himself to a nearby hospital.

Various media reports have named the victim as alleged Cape Town gang leader, Ralph Stanfield. However, Captain Mavela Masondo, the provincial police spokesperson said the identity of the victim cannot be confirmed at this stage. “We have not been able to obtain a statement from the victim yet due to his condition.

“Police have launched a manhunt for the suspects and the motive for the shooting is still unknown. We are investigating a case of attempted murder. The victim is in a serious but stable condition and the passenger was uninjured in the incident. We can confirm that the victim is from the Western Cape.”

Masondo said they are investigating the case and the suspects are still on the loose. Constable David Mothapo, spokesperson for Sandton Police Station spoke about the incident that took place in Melrose, near the Athol offramp on 6 July, “The driver heard gunshots and then realised that he was the target.

“The driver was then shot by the assailants and he managed to drive away from the gunfire. He drove to the Morningside Clinic to have his gunshot wounds attended to. As the victim drove into the clinic, the driver lost control of his vehicle and collided with three other vehicles at the clinic,” said Mothapo.

A bullet hole is clearly visible on the Audi R8 in which the victim was shot.

 

The driver was taken to a nearby hospital to receive further treatment.
