Sandton Sports Club is opening a new junior soccer sub-club at George Lea Park to be called the Sandton Warriors.

The club will be managed by the same group that manages the Wanderers Warriors Football Club. Herold Matodzi, head coach of Wanderers Warriors FC said, “Our aim is to create and nurture players who play beautiful, attacking football with flair, confidence, enjoyment and without fear of mistake. We attempt to provide a solid and an advanced skills foundation to serve as a base on which our players’ games are built.”

This is a small niche club that provides world-class, age-appropriate soccer training for boys and girls from the ages of three upwards, and over the last five years has made its presence known in the Little League. “Our players have travelled to some of the world’s greatest academies, including Bayern Munich and Real Madrid, as well as playing in some of Europe’s leading youth tournaments,” said Matodzi.

Behind this success is a strong squad of experienced coaches who have spent the last five years fine-tuning their knowledge specifically on developing young soccer players. The reason the club has such an incredible team of coaches is thanks to the fact that Warriors FC sets aside a substantial budget every year specifically to train their coaches.

“This year we have hired Michael Loftman, an English Uefa A licence coach and sports science master’s graduate who specialised in developing elite footballers. He has coached children at some of the biggest English clubs like Watford, and Tottenham Hotspurs, and he has specifically studied development structures at Barcelona, Real Madrid, Manchester City and Chelsea.”

During the off-season, Loftman has been training coaches and giving guest coaching sessions to various age groups of Wanderers Warriors players. Loftman will head up the Sandton Warriors opening.
