JOBURG – The Gauteng Canoe Union School League is set for the 2016 season with two races in Emmarentia on 31 January.

Schools such as St Davids Marist Inanda, Parktown Girls and Rivonia Primary school will participate in a 1 000m and 2 000m race at the Dabulamanzi Canoe Club on Emmarentia Dam.

The schools league is open to youth between the ages of eight and 18, and participants earn points towards gaining their Gauteng Junior Colours.

Participants also receive medals for both girls and boys in each age group for each race, and there is an annual awards presentation where the accumulated points are recognised.

The first race will start at 8am.

"Be the change you want to see in the world" These wise words, uttered by a great icon of the 20th century, have become my mantra as I set out to achieve my goal of making a difference in the world. I am a young, ambitious, driven, passionate journalist who lives and breathes hard news, current affairs, politics, entertainment and yes, gossip. I hope to use my voice to affect change and hold the corrupt and unscrupulous to account. Apart from scouring the streets for news, I enjoy reading, cooking, shopping and going to church.
