JOBURG - Residents should expect extremely hot temperatures on 7 December as the heatwave in Gauteng intensifies.

This according to the South African Weather Service who predicted severe thunderstorms in the afternoon in the West Rand region of Gauteng today as well as veld fire conditions in the rest of Gauteng.

Gauteng Weather predicted a maximum temperature of 37 degrees Celsius in Johannesburg on 7 December.

However as the week progresses temperatures are expected to drop slightly.

Gauteng Weather explained that a heatwave occurs when temperatures are at least 5 degrees higher than the average for the hottest month of the year for three consecutive days or more.
